Zero. A Magento storefront with zero legacy JavaScript
A theme and a set of modules built on HTML, HTMX and Tailwind CSS. No RequireJS, no jQuery, no Knockout: 23 KB of JavaScript on a page instead of 700, and a store that stays fast as it grows.
The web platform does the work
Luma ships a 2014 JavaScript stack to every visitor. Hyvä replaces it with Alpine.js. Zero goes one step further: the browser gets HTML and CSS, and a few kilobytes of script only where nothing else can do the job.
Server-rendered, HTMX for the rest
Every page is plain HTML from Magento. Filters, search suggestions, the mini-cart and checkout refresh small fragments with HTMX. There is no client-side state to keep in sync.
Built for the full page cache
Pages are cacheable by default. Per-visitor pieces arrive in one request after the page; product cards are cached one by one. Varnish or the built-in cache serve almost everything.
Strict Content Security Policy
No inline scripts, no eval. Every behaviour is a small static file wired by data attributes. Payment SDKs run inside the policy, not around it.
Tailwind CSS 4 and DaisyUI
One 40 KB stylesheet built from the theme and every enabled module. Design tokens, a documented component library and child themes for a store's own look.
Faster than Luma and Hyvä on the server
We install the three themes on the same server with the same Magento 2.4.9 sample catalog and run the same visits: home, a category, a product, a search, add to cart, the cart. Zero runs with all of its modules; Luma and Hyvä run bare. The numbers are requests per second with ten visitors at once, with the page cache cold and warm.
A category page renders in 1.2 s on Zero against 1.6 s on Hyvä and Luma, a search in 1.2 s against 1.4–1.6 s. In the browser Hyvä's pages are lighter and Zero's are close behind; both leave Luma far behind.
| Theme | Uncached req/s | Cached req/s | Lighthouse | JavaScript |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero | 8.8 | 24.6 | 87–91 | 23 KB |
| Luma | 7.7 | 22.1 | 79–82 | ~700 KB |
| Hyvä | 7.3 | 20.4 | 90–91 | 16 KB |
